About
Brayden Sibbald is an Australian songwriter and producer, who combines multilayered electronic soundscapes with authentic folk-driven songwriting. Inspired by the lush surrounds of his hometown in Western Australia, he crafts tracks using a mix of beats, synths, loops, samples, guitars and his Buckley-esque vocals. His textured and expansive future-pop sound has been compared to the likes of James Blake, Nick Murphy, Foals, Jarryd James, Jack Garratt and D.D.Dumbo.
Picking up the guitar in high school, Sibbald started out writing acoustic folk music, performing solo and with his band Needing Cherie. His talents were quickly noticed, taking out two songwriting gongs at the WAM Song of The Year awards in the folk category, and being booked to play Groovin the Moo and Fairbridge Festival. Sibbald also unanimously won a local competition to play the main stage at Southbound festival alongside acts like Peking Duk and Tash Sultana.
Moving into the electronic realm saw Sibbald’s breakout single ‘Float’ clock up over 400,000 plays on Spotify, and earning him kudos from triple j’s Richard Kinsgmill. Soon after, Sibbald captured the attention of Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle), scoring a record deal on ‘Exist Recordings’ for his single ‘Compass’. He was a winner in the Triple J Unearthed Level Up Grants competition, allowing him to film a music video for recent single ‘Changing Faces’ with Matsu (Flume / Tame Impala) celebrating his regional roots. Sibbald has performed alongside acts such as Lime Cordiale, Northeast Party House, The Temper Trap and Birds of Tokyo.
